Seasonal Series: My 10 Summertime Goals

Hello, I hope you are all enjoying the lovely sunny weather!

I don’t know whether it’s ‘officially’ summer yet but the sun is shining (well it has been all week) and my shorts have found their way out my wardrobe so I think it’s time for my summer post.

I absolutely love summer, it’s by far my favourite season! I enjoy spending time outside and collecting those rays. I don’t know about you, but I find that my mood is brighter and I feel more ambitious. As though the sun has shown a light into all the cracks in my mind and dried up the remaining puddles from winter. There are days when the sun casts shadows but during this time of year I find it easier to avoid them and distract myself by going for a walk or sitting in the garden listening to the birds. I find it easier to not to let these shadows form in to storms.

Over the past week I have been thinking about some goals that I want to set myself while the sun provides the motivation. I don’t necessarily want to complete them by a certain time, I just want to make the most of the good weather and my positive mood. So here are my 10 summer time goals:

1.Get healthier – When it’s raining and dull outside it can be easy to fall in to bad habits and not get out the house much. But now the days are brighter and warmer I want to start breaking those habits I’ve adopted. I am going to get out the house more, take my dog on long walks and eat healthier. In a couple of months I hope to write a blog post about my progress in trying to get healthier.

2. Get into a better sleeping habit- This is another bad habit I have adopted. It started with staying up late at night, not being able to sleep, and then getting tired so either sleeping in later or just being exhausted. I’ve been trying to break this for a little while but haven’t had much success. I’ve stopped sleeping in but still find it hard to get an early night. This is something I’m defiantly not going to give up on and hopefully I will get in to a better routine.

3. Spend more time outside- This week I have really enjoyed spending my evenings outside away from the TV and social media. I spend too much time doing that so it’s been really nice to spend time with my family outside, talking as opposed to watching the TV.

4. Write more poetry- I haven’t been writing poetry for very long but it is one of my new found loves. I find some much freedom in writing poetry. When I first started writing I was writing a lot but in the last few weeks I’ve lapsed. So I’m going to try and write at least one poem a day to build my collection and free the thoughts in my mind.

5.Take up more creative outlets- I’ve never been the most creative person but I want to try out different creative hobbies. I’m not sure what yet but recently I’ve been ordering quite a few things online which I’m excited about. Hopefully they will help spark some ideas. I don’t want to say too much about this because, if all goes well, I’ll write about it in another post.

6.Read more- Last year I set myself a target of reading 50 books in year. This may not seem a lot to some people but for someone who barely used to read, it’s quite a lot. I was making good progress with this but unfortunately my mental state took a turn for the worst so I stopped. However, at the moment I am in a better place so would really like to set myself this target again. Any book recommendations would be much appreciated.

7.Start looking to the future- I want to make the most of my motivation and start looking to the future. I am in a much better place than I was last year (something that I will go in to more detail about another time), and I hope this will last, but in the meantime I’m going to use it to my advantage. I have a few exciting things that I’m working on at the moment!

8.Become more organised with my blog- I have lots of ideas for blog posts but I need to start making time to write them. I don’t want to completely plan out and organise my blog, I like the freedom of writing what I want, when I want. However, with the warmer weather I want to try and write some posts in advance for weeks when I’m busy. If you enjoy reading my blog please follow it so you can keep up with all my ramblings.

9.Write down three positive things a day- This is something that I am going to start as of next week. Positive things happen every day but it can be quite easy to overlook them, especially when you’re busy or if you’re having a bad day. So I’m going to actively seek them out and write them down. So when I am having a bad day I can look through my collection of positivity.

10. Become a better version of myself- I’m not quite sure how to do this but hopefully by sticking to this list I will make some progress. I will let you know how I get on with this one.

    I like your goals. I am going to try number 9 with my daughter. I am hoping it will help the healing process.

    Goals are great to have, I think the biggest and most important goal is to develop more self-care.That definitely falls into the sleep category, writing positive things about yourself and etc. I like to use a white board and have one in my living room. I write down all of my goals there. 🙂
